WordPress is a content management system aimed at creating blogs (websites updated regularly). Developed in PHP and MySQL under the GPL, is a founder Matt Mullenweg. WordPress was created from b2/cafelog disappeared and has become close to Movable Type CMS in the most popular of the blogosphere. The causes of its growth are enormous, including its license, its ease of use and features such as content manager.

names and versions

The name WordPress was suggested by Christine Selleck, a friend of lead developer Matt Mullenweg. WordPress is the official successor of b2/cafelog. 

The released version of Wordpress is the code name jazz musicians such as Mingus. Version 1.5, which was launched in mid-February 2005 is the code name "Strayhorn" (Billy Strayhorn) and offered a wide range of new features such as the use of static pages. 

The company 

Automattic, the company behind WordPress, has also a blog hosting service based on their free software called WordPress.com. 

This allows you to create and manage pages out of order "normal" of the weblog and the first step to transform a basic software management blogs to a full content management system. 

Another feature is the creation of templates ( "themes") to enable the user to activate or deactivate one or the other as they wish for their sites. Main Features 

WordPress was born out of desire to build a personal publishing system, elegant and with good architecture ( "Code is poetry"). Based on PHP, MySQL and licensed under GPL, Wordpress puts special emphasis on aesthetics, web standards, and usabilidad.3

Structure

Wordpress, in principle, is a web publishing system based on tickets ordered by date, among many other possibilities besides pages. 

The structure and design of the visual system depends on the site templates (themes).

WordPress supports one blog per installation, though you can use multiple copies in different directories when using tables in separate databases. 

WordPress MU (also known as WordPress or WPMU MU) is a derivation of WordPress created to allow the existence of several blogs in one installation. WordPress MU makes it possible for everyone with a website you want to host your own blogging community, to control and moderate all the blogs from a single management environment. WordPress MU adds eight new data tables for each blog about WordPress. It is used in the hosting service free WordPress.com blogs, and other organizations such as Le Monde, Harvard University and Edublogs. 

Lyceum is another enterprise version of WordPress. Unlike WordPress MU, Lyceum stores all information in a set of database tables. Some communities are highlighted using Lyceum TeachFor.Us26 (Teach for America teacher's blogs), BodyBlogs and Hopkins Blogs. 

In 2008 Andy joined Automattic Peating to continue their work in BuddyPress, WPMU an extension that will add community features to WordPress.

While much of the project has been developed by the community around WordPress is still associated with Automattic, the company where some of the major contributors are empleados.28 WordPress
